Situated in a major regional shopping centre, adjacent to the first floor parking area, this fast growing 24 hour gym was started by the current owners in March 2012.
This 24 hour format is more profitable than regular gyms, and it allows both partners freedom to pursue other careers and/or business interests. One of the partners plays no active role in the business, while the active partner devotes about three hours a day to the business, and attends to his other business interests during the rest of the day.
The area is very secure, being on an upper floor, with heavy duty metal gates at the entrance to the car park which are electronically locked after normal business hours. The same key tag which members use to enter the gym also operates the gates.
The business is being put on the market owing to increasing time demands of the active partner from his other business interests. On line membership formalities are used by many people.
Market / Customers:
The target market is mainly young people living or working in the area and surrounding suburbs. The demographic is widespread, but most members are white and blue collar workers, either working or residing in the surrounding areas.
The business has never conducted any advertising or marketing other than its own website. The centre does offer the opportunity to set up kiosks in the main mall for membership drives, but they have not found it necessary to use this facility owing to the rapid natural growth in membership.
Membership rates are:
$ 9.95 per week for a twelve month contract
$12.95 per week for a six month contract
$15.95 per week with no contract
The membership direct debit system is contracted to Debit Success and their software handles all aspects of membership monetary details and control.
Current membership is 564 all on direct debit.
The premises 430 square metres in extent. The adjacent parking area is huge and not heavily used by the general shoppers attending the centre, so that parking is convenient, ample and secure.
There is one main training floor, men’s and ladies’ toilets, 16 lockers, an office opening onto the training floor and a storeroom.
The premises are fully covered by security cameras, which are visible to the owners via computer, tablet or smart phones. All vision is recorded for review by the owners to verify that all users are members (all members submit a photograph when they join the gym). There are emergency phones connected direct to Chubb Security, who notify the relevant authorities if a problem occurs.
Premises are fully air conditioned by two separate and independent systems, which can be operated simultaneously or singularly to reduce costs.
There is a five year lease in place which has approximately three years to run and there are three further five year options for renewal.
Rent is $5,971 per month plus outgoings of $437.
Plant/Equipment / Fittings:
The equipment at a cost price of $217, 400 is a maximum of two years old with some only having been recently added. All equipment is fully paid and included in the sale free of any encumbrance.
