Situated 138 km SW of Melbourne, 65 km from Geelong and 57 km from Colac. The population is approximately 1,100. This picturesque town is one of the most stunning beauty spots along the Great Ocean Road. Its sparkling ocean outlook set against the lush, cool Otway forests leaves a lasting impression.
The town retains a certain charm owing in part to some fine old buildings. The sidewalk cafes, eating houses and boutiques, along with the ocean setting, lend the town something of a Mediterranean air.
The town has two pubs and a number of cafes, restaurants and bakeries. The town is serviced by one supermarket and other stores sell more local fruits, vegetables and cheese. At the pier is the fish co-op selling fresh fish, including local catches. As usual in a tourist town there are a large number of boutiques and clothing stores, a book store, a second-hand book store and art galleries/craft shops. There are also more regular shops such as a pharmacy, newsagent, real estate agents and hardware store. There is a Police Station and Ambulance Centre, a Hospital and Medical Centre.
